Duties

As a Student Trainee (Administrative), you will use your knowledge of and experience with Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services to optimize business results and customer experience by:

Administrative Support duties include but are not limited to receiving and recording administrative documents and financial actions or obligations, responding to inquiries concerning personnel, budget, travel, training, requisitions, and departmental programs. Performs a variety of administrative and technical duties in the area of administrative services and organizational management.

Budget Analyst duties include but are not limited to assisting with the identification of policy and operational issues; assisting in the development of new or modifying old policies, procedures, and guidance related to financial management and business operations; assisting with determining availability, purpose, and processes financial resources.

Human Resources duties include but are not limited to assisting Human Resources personnel with a collection and analyzing human resources date (e.g., demographics, best practices, personnel, projects, etc.) from a variety of sources to assist in creating briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and reports.

Management and Program Analyst duties include, but are not limited to conducting organizational studies and evaluations, assisting in design of systems and procedures, prepare operations and procedural reports, and assisting management in operating efficiently and effectively.

IT Specialist duties include but not limited to, completing simple, procedural portions of assignments pertaining to developing, delivering, or supporting IT systems and services. Receives training and performs developmental assignments designed to increase IT-related skill and knowledge. Helps senior specialists by performing routine, repetitive support tasks associated with Office activities and Initiatives.

Program Support duties include working with management and stakeholders in the development and implementation of new systems or programs; and assisting in the preparation of reports, positions papers, briefing materials, talking points, and presentations for senior leadership on programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Be in good academic standing and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA (cumulative) for an undergraduate degree program or at least a 3.0 GPA in a professional master’s degree program.

AND must also meet one of the following:

GS-3 Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study.

GS-4 Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school leading to an associate’s degree.

GS-5 Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.

An individual participating in the Student Trainee Program who otherwise meets the program requirements for conversion (i.e., work hours, satisfactory performance, educational requirements, training completed, etc.) may be converted to a position with an established career ladder, when that career ladder has been established in the announcement for which they were selected.
