Black Maternal Health Week is April 11-April 17 and there are several opportunities to get involved here in the Great Ward 8. Please see the details below.
April 12, 2023, 1:00 pm – The Ward 8 Maternal Health Summit will focus on improving the overall health of women, babies and families by connecting elected officials, health and education experts, community-based partners in Ward 8. In preparation for the Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center bringing a maternity ward East of the River, we are working to identify current resources and fill any gaps in the community’s perinatal health and birth landscape. This event is open to the public and is a Ward 8 specific precursor to the National Maternal and Infant Health Summit and will take place at The Well at Oxon Run, 300 Valley Ave SE.
April 13, 2023, Doulas 101 and Yoga will be hosted by Martha’s Table and feature a perinatal presentation from Howard University as well as a yoga session.
April 16, 2023, 1:00 pm Walk & Talk: The Maternal Health Edition promotes physical and mental wellness for new/ expecting moms (and their support systems) in partnership with Wake the 8. This event is open to the public and will take place at The Well at Oxon Run, 300 Valley Ave SE.
